Joshua Bell, who is one of America’s top classical musicians – with people paying him $US100+ to see him perform, went to a Washington Metro station with his priceless Stradivarius violin and… busked! Most people did not take notice, a couple dropped him some pennies as they would to a young talented kid, or a beggar, only a couple stopped to listen.

Joshua Bell

I often walk by buskers and think: “hey, (s)he’s good! I bet (s)he could sell ablums!” – well, I think this guy has showed that perhaps some of them could!

Oh whoopie doo, did you know that sharing music is a horrible heinous crime against humanity?

Well it truly is. That’s nothing new. There is a wonderful association called RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America), centred in the land of the brave, has even been suing 12yo girls for $1000s of dollars. That will show those evil file sharers! Everyone downloads music illegally, but lets just pick a 12yo, sue her ass and show them who is boss! In the end, the RIAA was very very kind and generous and settled for just $2000. In another incident the RIAA sued a dead man for his estate, but come on, they’re not that mean, they allowed the family a 60 day grieving period.

Of course that is old news, now we are getting more and more excitement like legal music downloads from places like iTunes, which do their best to put so much DRM crap into their music that you get a track that even you can barely use whenever you want. iTunes is pretty much for iPod only, lots of other sites are not even iPod compatible. I have an iRiver (competitor of iPod) and I doubt that too much of this “legal” music will play on it.

There are free (but oh so illegal) options available to get all the music that you want, without the putting an evil piece of software into your PC that you can’t control and that won’t let you listen to your own damn music in whatever way you like – so how do these people expect us to pay them money for the extra inconvinience!

They preach bullshit about poor artists not being able to earn money off music if it is shared illegally… Have you seen Michael Jackson’s ranch??? 😀 Oh poor, poor artists! How will they eat! You know, even if they officially gave away all their music for free, they would make more money than most of us could ever dream of! If you’ve ever been to a concert you’d see how many people there are and how much they pay for entrance each! Not to mention things like MTV, radio channels, movies, etc that pay them big $$$ for the rights their music.

After reading about law suits against kids and dead people, I’m not sure that I even want to support these guys even if they didn’t want to enslave my music!
